Bonhams Knightsbridge: A gilt-bronze figure of Begtse Chen, 18th/19th century

The figure boldly modelled, standing with feet apart upon a separate, possibly associated lotus petal base, the right arm aloft holding a scorpion handled sword, wearing elaborate chain mail armoured robes, a celestial scarf billowing about the body, the flamiform hair fastened with a skull diadem, the ferocious face with bulging eyes and wide open mouth.

Dimensions: 30.5cm (12in) high x 31cm (12 1/4in) wide max.

Provenance: Acquired in the early 20th century (by repute).

Sold with a South African client at Bonhams Knightsbridge, 12 May 2025 (lot 117) for £70,250 (Estimate £6,000-8,000).
