Over thirty years of experience in the auction industry and until recently was a senior director of Sotheby’s London and head of their Chinese department for over ten years. Prior to that Robert was a director of Sotheby's Australia and ran the decorative arts department from 2000.
Robert has a natural curiosity and passion for the subject and brings this enthusiasm when assisting clients in valuing, acquiring or disposing of the many areas of Chinese art. Through his regular travels throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA, Robert has developed an impressive global network of collectors, dealers, auction house specialists, museum curators, conservators and enthusiasts.
Robert holds an honours degree in art history from London University and has given numerous lectures and hosted handling sessions to visiting collector groups, museum friends, as well as university students. In his work as an advocate for the wider trade, he has acted as a director of Asian Art In London for over ten years and has also been a council member of the Oriental Ceramic Society.
Robert has provided written valuations and sale appraisals for museums, private collectors, corporations and trustees and executors of estates.
