6. A rare yellow jade ‘dragon belt hook, Qing dynasty, 18th century

The curved shaft terminating with the head of a dragon, the reverse worked with a circular knop, the stone of an even translucent yellow colour, with a russet patch to the tip

Length: 9.3cm

Provenance: Purchased by the vendor in Vancouver, Canada, 2009.

Belt hooks worked in yellow jade are rare and this one has an understated elegance created by its minimalist approach to the carving. The larger, rounded unadorned shaft gradually narrows to the head of the dragon.
