The sides worked in shallow relief with a retreat in a mountainous river landscape, with a handle to each side, the flat upper surface worked with scrolls, the stone of a pale celadon tone with russet horizontal flaws
Across the handles: 14.2cm
Provenance: Purchased from Pacific Antiques, Victoria British Columbia, Canada, 2009.
It is unusual to find jade cups of this period with a pictorial design to each side and the carver has cleverly used the natural flaws in the stone to help create a sense of depth to the landscape.
